A Mark of Grace

2014-present

During the many times I have visited my extended family in the small city of Helena Arkansas, it has been a place where one can sense a feel of community, love, and the rewards of hard work.  My Grandparents house in Helena is a second home to my family and a place of care and rest for their friends who live nearby. My Grandma Dorothy who has been a great role model in my life, was dedicated to her faith in God, family, home, and land, and church and city through subtle yet honorable actions.  Although she has passed away, her grace, care, and worldview, live on through her surviving husband, family, home, and community.

This photographic project shares a portriat of my grandma through her family and sense of place.  Whether it is in her home or abroad, I found many things and places that remind me of what she held important. I see the desire in my Grandpa and Aunt still living in their house, to treasure and live by that mark of love and grace that my grandmother displayed for decades in her home and community.  These photographs are displayed in diptych form to share connections of the community and home and family environment with other scenes within the home, community, church, and land they have lived on for over 50 years. These photographs and pairings visualize the importance of home, family, history, and the simple and strong sense of love and marks of grace my Grandmother Dorothy left behind.
