Festival Series (2014)

This series of photographs are portraits of people in eventful environments.  I was continuously drawn to capturing interesting juxtapositions between the people and their environments.  There is something beautiful to me about how different elements unintentionally come together in front of me begging to be captured. I also observed that people became apart of the landscape; the people and the environment complementing and contrasting against one another. I also found this true looking at color, line, and through the various activity of the events.

I am also inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson and with his idea of capturing that “decisive moment. ” One may arguably say my work is much different from any of these photographers, but documenting with a personal view or interest is something I have found in his work that I can relate to.  Dorothea Lange once said, “For me, documentary photography is less a matter of subject and more a matter of approach.”  I have taken to this quote and will be a motto for me as I shoot whatever that may be. These photographers teach me about people and their interaction with their situations and the world and that moments that barely last a second can turn into an intriguing photograph.
